Ajax Cape Town 1 – 0 Kaizer Chiefs
As I had predicted in my preview on Friday, Ajax Cape Town clinched the first leg of the MTN 8 Wafa Wafa semi final against the AmaKhosi. No matter how one looks at it, the Muhsin Ertugral factor did certainly play a big part in the Urban Warrior’s victory.

The first half started with Chiefs dominating possession as they came close to taking the lead through Kaizer Motaung Junior who missed a glorious opportunity with some casual finishing in front of the experienced Hans Vonk. Ajax had a few opportunities that were squandered by mostly Diyo Sibisi who was not having a very good evening.
Dipsey Selolwane converted from the spot after Ajax were awarded a penalty following a physical tackle by Thabang Rooi on an Ajax striker in the box. After the 63rd minute goal, Ajax were happy to sit back and defend their lead. However this strategy almost backfired as Chiefs came close to scoring an equalizer on a couple of occasions towards the end of the match.
Some really poor referring by Peter Mabuza didn’t sit too well with the Kaizer Chiefs fans who started showing their frustrations by throwing items to the field. Despite all this, Ajax travel to Orlando Stadium next week with the one goal as their advantage and we should prepare ourselves to witness a cracker of a game.

I was at the stadium, it was damn-near freezing but a number of the Chiefs faithful were walking around bare-chested (I’ve heard Smirnoff has that effect). The referee didn’t seem like he was focusing on the game and the fans, although unjustified in throwing their vuvuzelas into the field, were right to feel frustrated. And Kaizer Motaung Jr should be drafted into the Chiefs marketing team, I’m sure he’d be light years more productive there, what with the ladies and the fashion press loving him so much and all. Right now he’s out of his depth. Let’s see how it pans out at Orlando Stadium.
