This is a tough preview to write. Sure, both teams have had a lengthy pre-season (Man Utd even played Valencia as recently as Wednesday), but there is not much in it. Last year, the Community Shield was a done deal before kickoff. Manchester United faced Portsmouth at the very beginning of Pompey’s stunning implosion.
Two obvious things will have a big influence on this match:
Manchester United are without Cristiano Ronaldo. Whether this is a massive hindrance or not remains to be seen. Man United have been impressive during the preseason with their use of “new” playmaker Michael Owen (who is a danger in the box), as well as the resurgent Wayne Rooney. Also, the impact of new buy Antonio Valencia cannot be discounted. However, first choice keeper Edwin van der Sar will miss this game (and the next few weeks) due to injury. If Tomasz Kuszczak plays ahead of Ben Foster, goals may be slightly easier to come by.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have a new manager in Carlo Ancelotti. Early results under the Italian seem positive, but remember of course that Luis Felipe Scolari also had a great start last season. That said the two aren’t very easily comparable. The one has a great track record at club level. The other was a national coach. Chelsea’s new diamond midfield formation has been causing trouble for opponents during the preseason. The team has also resisted the urge to sell half the squad (as they had hinted at the end of the season), and have made some intelligent buys, including Russian midfielder Yuri Zhirkov.
This game has nothing in it. We even went so far as to flip a coin to predict a result. Heads, Chelsea. Tails, Manchester United. Even bookmakers cannot separate the two.
One would expect this game to go to extra time and penalties, but something (a big hunch) tells me we’ll see a winner in 90 minutes.

Chelsea looked more confident than ManU, and the foul SAF is complaining about wasnt a foul to me, Evra give the ball and wasn’t even in position to receive the ball back. he is just malingering

i think its time to realize the ripe and raw because most man u players say FA community shield is not a trophy but in last season they took it, they also say if you win community shield cup you cant win premier waht a crap of hypocrisy?
