Supersport United handed Kaizer Chiefs their second successive defeat in the 2009/2010 season. This was after former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siyabonga Nkosi connected well with a Daine Klate cross to head the ball past a hapless debutant Thela Ngobeni.

The defending champions played like real champions in the first half with Anthony Laffor being a constant thorn to young Punch Masenamela who struggled to keep up with the midfielders pace throughout the first 45 minutes. And Daine Klate proved once again that he’s one of the sharpest left wingers in the PSL with his pin point crossing. I know Mr. Santana was watching, I hope this boy gets a call up soon.
Basically, one could almost tell that Chiefs were never going to get anything more a draw in that game, the coach started the game with a 4 – 5 – 1 formation against what I like to call the most defense-minded team in the ABSA Premiership. As a matter of fact, the midfield was so congested, not even a single pass made it to Kaizer Motaung jnr, who played as a lone striker on the night. Supersport central midfielders Hlompho Kekana and Letladi Madubanya totally dominated that part of the field and gave Tinashe Nengomasha no room to move. This dominance meant that the lone striker remained upfront, lonely, as the role suggests. While Supersport midfielders Siyabonga Nkosi, Anthony Laffor and Daine Klate did as they pleased throughout the game.
Here’s the deal Mr. Vermezovic, Supersport United are a very defense-minded team, they’ve been doing this during the days of Pitso Mosimane, the only way to beat a team of their kind is all out-attack from the onset. This is how they won the league the first time around in the 2007/08 season.
Another thing that seems to be only annoying to the supporters, is the fact that off-form Kaizer jnr who cannot even pretend to be on-form keeps getting a start ahead of Knowledge Musona. Why he even plays, baffles me and many others. Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to tell the coach how to coach his team, but come on now, everyone can see Kaizer jnr is not ready to play, in fact I’m not even sure if he’ll ever be ready. Some have been saying that he plays because he’s the boss’s son. Well if you look at it, there’s no other reason one can think of, damn even the coach doesn’t seem to know why he plays him. This is after last night’s press conference, when he was questioned about daddy’s boy, he said:
“Tell me something, can he play for Supersport United or Orlando Pirates? Of course not, he’s the son of Kaizer (Chiefs) and we HAVE to help him, here”
I couldn’t stop laughing when I heard this snippet on radio this morning. It basically confirmed what everyone’s been saying.
So here’s my conclusion before I go on and on, Supersport won the battle in the middle, scored the important goal, came back in the second half and defended. They got the full three points they needed, what more can you ask for?

Is it not rather a case of Kaizer not getting any good ball?

@Emil,
That, form and confidence, apparently he’s so affected by the booing he’s asked his team mates not to pass him the ball, can you blive it?
