Supersport United is once again geared up to clinch the PSL crown this season after a string of good results in their recent games.
Without a doubt this is the team of the moment which many had underrated a couple of seasons back.
Marshaled by Ricardo Katza and Bongani “the Rock” Khumalo at the back, the Pretoria based outfit is certainly on the prowl to add another PSL title in their cabinet in Tshwane.
Ajax Cape Town which for some time were the pace-setters, are nowhere to be found on the log as experience has become a big factor for them in the stroke of the league.
Orlando Pirates after starting the season on a high note have been disappointing with their inconsistent performances. Chances have been created by Irvin Khoza’s lads but finishing has been their worst nightmare.
Words doing the rounds in the soccer fraternity are suggesting that the coach’s tactics have let the sea robbers down on numerous occasions as he constantly opts to bench the likes of Lebohang Mokoena and Gilbert Mushangazhike whom they believe can make a huge difference on the field.
But who will win the league? Supersport has undoubtedly shown more consistency and anger comparing to any other team in the league. The late acquisition of Lance Davids clearly indicates that Amatsatsantsa a Pitoli are on the prowl for the next successive PSL medal this season.
They have an explosive attacking force with the likes of Mozambican International Elias “maestro” Pelembe, Fikru Tafera, Glen Salmon, Anthony Lafour, Brent Carelse, Lerato Chabangu, young Bhengu and Daine Klate.
Gavin Hunt is definitely spoilt for choice as far as attacking players are concerned, and only they would be to blame should they let this opportunity to win the league again slip off their hands.
And if Ajax Cape Town is still serious about winning the league, an acquisition of more mature and experienced players would not be a bad idea to entertain.
Have your say.

Wow, welcome Edgar. What a great piece… it’s witty, exciting and fresh. It’s stuff the seven o’clock news is made of. Looking forward to reading more of your entries. Keep it fresh, be easy. BTY i think Supersort will take it back to Pretoria!

Nice article, but I still think that the Urban Warriors can turn this around. For all Supersport’s so called experience they were very lucky to win the title last season.

Hi Ash i am very excited to hear from you too… i am afraid but i will have to disagree with you. You said S/Sport won the league by chance? Your comments are very unfortunate and i will have to dismiss it with a great deal of contempt. I think they deserved to win it last year as they were more angry to win it. Ajax needs more mature players… these boys are playing to buy takkies and Golf 5’s whilst we have guys like Thabo Mooki and Ricardo Katza and others playing to support their families. That is the difference bra. By the way i am a Big fan of Ajax bra…. but i am very disappointed with them. Please send some more exciting words on the blog… call your buddies their girlfriends and brothers to come on board and comment as well… plz look forward for the next article i will be sending to you guys on Monday….. stay blessed …

Edgar do Nascimento, how are you doing my friend? Welcome to the board and I hope that your input to this blog will be a huge success. I personaly love being here in this site and enjoy the sharing of our football knowledge i would like to welcome you to the world of sport.
Supersport United is a very ambitious team that was ignored some seasons ago but it had the potential of being one of the greatest teams in SA and this proves that it has been there. It only needed the kind of a coach that it has at the moment and they are pulling together to the same direction. Gavin Hunt is an excellent coach and his tactics are world class. Just go back to when he was Black Leapards Coach some few seasons ago and you will attest to this. He made that team a feared team whenever they played. Supersport is and it will be a force to be recorned in this league. I just hope that they dont dissapoint us on the Champions league. I wish them all the best in Africa as well as on the domestic league.

Welcome Edgar, I must say, great piece, I think Supersport proved yesterday that they mean serious business, Ajax were outplayed and the score could have been 5-0 had it not been for some sitters being missed by Supersport.
@Ash, after the game yesterday I think you will agree with me that Ajax are officially out of the title contention, my thought anyway, what’s yours Ash?
@Loupesz, who and what can we attribute Supersport PSL dominance? Management? Gavin Hunt?
February 22nd, 2009 at 3:13 pm
@Calvin, I think both the management and Hunt as well. the management gave what he wanted and he is paying them with the results on the field.

Hola bra… thanks for the contribution… i am like wise enjoying bieng part of thei soccer chat platform… i agree with you that S/Sport are more serious than any other team in South Africa at the moment… i hope they don’t lose focus and start doing silly things off the field which might destabilize the team… If S/Sport wins again, we shall not have any doubts that their management is well prepared and very ambitious to conquer footbal around Africa and even Europ…..
Stay well gents…

@ Edgar & Calvin
I apologise for my previous comment. I was frustrated by my team’s poor form of late and didn’t really mean what I said.
Supersport are the best team in the country at the moment and there is no way that any team can win a league competition by luck. There’s just too many games, and the most consistent performing team will always win the league.
I think that it’s no too late for the Urban Warriors to win the title, we need some more experienced players to make up for the ones we lost at the end of last season. I think Superport will win it but my gut tells me that Chiefs may just walk away with it.

@ Ash
hey man, I don’t think you need to apologise for anything you said, from what I read you said nothing wrong, I personally felt that Supersport were lucky last season also, considering their wins (mostly 1-0 wins) in the second half of the season, and unfortunately all the other times were dropping vital points at that stage, So the first time, a little luck played its part, but this season as you may agree with me, they have really played their hearts out to defend their title and are currently looking very likely to do so, but we must also remember there are other teams who are vying for the league as well, which unfortunately Supersport still has to face in the coming weeks, so this league is my opinion could go to anyone really, what’s your feeling on that?
Ash, may I take a guess that you and I support the same team? Arsenal perhaps?
February 23rd, 2009 at 7:14 am
I support two teams who threw away great starts to the season Calvin, hence my frustration. Liverpool and Ajax Cape Town.
February 23rd, 2009 at 9:20 am
@Ash, and I support two teams who just never peaked this season, Arsenal and Chiefs, although i must say the latter has done well to be at a point where it contends for the league

The league is in the bag for SSU already, they proved to be hungrier than the so called big 3. Ajax are out of contention, they will finish in the top 5.
Pelembe to take what was stolen from him last season…..what a cracker he scored(oh it was not awarded) but it was a well struck goal. Pelembe is theee man!!!
February 23rd, 2009 at 4:58 pm
@8..3…1 , remember SSU still has to play all of the 3 teams below them, Pirates, Sundowns and Chiefs, so i think it will be decided after those three games, what’s your thought on that?
February 26th, 2009 at 9:29 am
Hmmmm. Supersport going down to Amazulu last night. This could prove vital to Chiefs and Pirates who have games in hand to play…
March 1st, 2009 at 3:08 pm
Daine Kalte was a marvel to watch, and what more can one say about the free scoring Pelembe, this season he will get what rightfully belongs to him, that award that went to Teko…
